BVD Test Results for 2018

The level of BVD infection in calves born in Ireland continues to decline.

For the period from 01 January 2018 to the 08 of October 2018, 1,115 persistently infected PI calves were born. This represented 0.05% or approximately one in two thousand of all births. Only 1% of Ireland’s 83,000 breeding herds had a PI present at some stage during 2018.

Most of the 1,115 PIs born in 2018 have been removed from the farms where they were disclosed. It is believed that only 54 PI calves were alive countrywide as of October 2018.
