Description Eastern equine encephalomyelitis (EEE) is a mosquito-borne virus affecting equids and humans in the Americas. Wild bird populations can act as disease reservoirs, and when EEE spreads to horses it causes fever and severe neurological disease. In humans initial clinical signs include fever and flu-like symptoms, before the onset of severe neurological disease and EEE in humans has a high fatality rate.
