Avian Influenza Update No. 8 of 2025

Please find above Avian Influenza Update No. 8 of 2025 which includes updates on the Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) situation in Ireland, Great Britain and Europe.

  • S.I. No. 666/2024 - Avian Influenza (Biosecurity measures) Regulations 2024, the ‘best practice’ biosecurity measures as usually advised by the Department of Agriculture Food and the Marine which came into force on 6th December 2024, will be lifted on 31st May 2025.
  • In Northern Ireland, the Avian Influenza Prevention Zone (AIPZ) and the ban on poultry gatherings will be lifted on Saturday 31st May 2025.
  • 20 cases of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI H5N1, H5Nx) have been confirmed in wild birds in Ireland countrywide during January-May 2025.

*DAFM advises all flock owners to continue implementing high levels of biosecurity*

 

*Maintaining high biosecurity measures on farm, is key to protecting Ireland’s poultry industry from avian influenza and the serious consequences of an outbreak*

 

  • Members of the public are reminded not to touch sick or dead wild birds.
  • Poultry keepers are reminded to remain vigilant for any suspicions of avian influenza in their flocks, and to report such suspicions to their Regional Veterinary Office or the National Disease Emergency Hotline 01 492 8026 without delay.
