Description |
Foot and mouth disease (FMD) is a highly contagious viral disease of cloven-hoofed domestic and wild animals. FMD virus typically causes acute febrile disease, followed by vesicles localized on feet, the mouth and the mammary gland of adults. Deaths are rare in adults but FMD virus is can cause myocarditis of young animals causing death. FMD is not considered a public health risk. |
