Description Rabies is a viral disease that affects all mammals, including humans. Certain species are considered reservoir hosts (dogs, foxes, raccoons, skunks), with other affected species considered dead end hosts. Rabies causes severe nervous system disease, and once clinical signs develop it is invariably fatal. The only treatment is post-exposure rabies vaccination and anti-rabies antibodies.
