Description |
Surra is caused by the protozoa Trypanosma evansi. Although particularly serious in equids, it has been reported in many domesticated and wild species. It is spread mechanically by biting insects and may result in very high morbidity and mortality rates in naive populations. Surra is not considered a public health risk. |
