Description | Avian metapneumovirus (aMPV) causes an acute highly contagious upper respiratory tract infection primarily of turkeys and chickens. The disease produced by aMPV was originally referred to as avian pneumovirus infection and avian rhinotracheitis; it also has been referred to as turkey rhinotracheitis in turkeys and swollen head syndrome (SHS) in chickens. |
